I did not feel like leaving the house today, but I had to get some groceries because we were low on supplies. We were out of the fruits that I used to make smoothies for Chris in the mornings, so I had to get those. She had been complaining that I should just rest and she would take care of me, but I needed to feel like I was contributing to our family somehow. My body knew that I was used to doing more and it craved action. I had been using my mind to control it, but I could feel my strength weakened. For that reason, I stayed home and didn't get involved in anything. I kept my eyes away from other people and mind my own business. It had helped, and Christine was very proud of me. The incident at the park had rattled things between us, but a week had passed and we were over that.
It was a little early to start preparing a nursery, but it was something to do and I had asked Christine to get some of her friends to help remove the furniture from one of the bedrooms upstairs. They were going to do that today, and I was really excited to start the planning of the nursery. I did not know the gender as yet, but I could put neutral colors for some things.
As I walked through the last aisle of the supermarket, I realized that I was buying way more than I had planned to. Things were dropping off the top of the cart because there was nowhere left to put more stuff. I removed my phone to call Chris for help but decided to wait until I got a spot in the line at the cashier. I slowly settled in a position beside a man and a little girl and tried hard not to let anything fall.
I looked at the blonde curls of the girl who looked about five years old, and I could see what Chris saw in having a daughter. They were really so adorable. But I wanted tough, and my son would be the smartest and toughest of them all. I moved up one space in the line and, of course, my pack of green peas fell to the floor. I bent to pick it up and the little girl looked at me with her pretty, blue, sad eyes. She quickly looked away, but not before I saw the danger she was in. She was kidnapped! I needed to break this guy's neck and take her to safety. But, I couldn't. I promised Christine.
How were they going to get the information they need to apprehend him? Christine couldn't just say my wife saw it in the little girl's eyes, so what reason would they have to go after him? I could not let this guy get away because I could see the girl crying for her mother, and how brutal her training was. They were training her how to act in public where no one could suspect that she was not his child.
